What should I wear?
Don't over do it keep it clean, elegant and matching with the location of your session.Everything else, like make-up and clothes, works well if it compliment that connection. But it should never try to compete with it, or overpower it. And it has to be congruent with it – for example, avoid suits on the beach.
What should I wear?
It’s a good idea to make your clothes match the location.
It would look a bit odd, for example, if we were shooting in a beautiful park and everyone was wearing clothes that they would wear to an expensive dinner.
You want your family photographs to “make sense”. In other words, everything has to be congruent. There’s an element of a story in each photo, and you want every element in the photograph to support that story.
That’s why wearing suits (or something that could be misconstrued as work clothes) to a park or beach shoots are usually a bad idea.
Perhaps the only time you can get away with it is during a wedding photoshoot, because “stopping by the beach after the ceremony” is a story that’s congruent with that kind of day.
It’s a good idea to bring a change of clothes and leave them in the car. We might or might not use it, but it’s better to have more options than less. Make sure you and your partner are wearing colors which not clash.
Subdued, earthy colors and tones are better for adults. Louder, brighter colours and patterns are better for the kids.
Should I wear make-up?
Yes, but remember to make it clean and simple. You don't want your bright eye shadow to overpower your whole face.
